VICTIMS’ RIGHTS: A STEP FORWARD | LISBON, 27TH AND 28TH SEPTEMBER
VSE 2012 Conference | General Meeting
The Seminar Victims' Rights: A Step Forward will be held on 27th and 28th September, in Lisbon, at the Olissipo Oriente Hotel.
Every year, 75 million fall victims to crime in the European Union (EU). Roughly 15% of the EU’s population is yearly the direct victim of crime.
By themselves these numbers should set victims’ needs as a priority to EU’s and Member States policies. The most recent EU legislation mirrors this perspective. Will the Member States respond accordingly? And what new challenges arise for national agencies and organisations? What are the cross-cutting issues at stake? All in all, what do these victims really need? This Seminar attempts all these questions and more. Insofar, the Seminar Victims’ Rights: a step forward will focus mainly on:
- new challenges for criminal justice agencies and victim support;
- the fragile situation of cross-border victims;
- sharing of good practices.
This event is organised within the Project CABVIS – Capacity Building for EU crime victim support (2011-2012). Promoted by Victim Support Europe and managed by the Portuguese Association for Victim Support (APAV) and co-financed by the European Commission, under the Programme Criminal Justice – Directorate-Generale Justice, this Project is developed in partnership with the Victim Support Scotland, Slachtofferhulp Nederland, Weisser Ring Germany and Victim Support England & Wales.
